Co-op is set to make this festive season special with the launch of its Christmas food-to-go range while embarking on a significant charity partnership.
This year, Co-op introduces enticing festive offerings such as a peppercorn steak wrap with rosemary gravy dip and a turkey, truffle, and brie sandwich, both featured in its premium range. Additionally, a festive sub roll finds its place in the core range. Five beloved sandwiches, including the GRO no turkey and spiced slaw, brie and cranberry, Boxing Day feast, turkey feast, and pigs under blankets, are returning with enhancements to their recipes.
As part of its collaboration with Barnardo’s children’s charity, Co-op has committed to donating £50,000 from the sales of its Christmas sandwich range. This move aligns with Co-op’s aim to raise £5 million for the charity, reflecting a robust commitment to giving back.
Rebecca Galloway, Co-op’s food-to-go developer, expressed excitement about the festive offerings, noting that these seasonal sandwiches have become a cherished tradition in the UK. Galloway stated, “The lead up to the festive season is such an exciting time for us – the festive sandwich has become part of the Christmas tradition for many of us across the country and we know our members and customers eagerly anticipate picking up a festive lunchtime treat when they pop into our stores.”
Meanwhile, Co-op’s festive sandwiches are competitively priced with its core sandwiches and wraps retailing at £3.25. They are available as part of a standard meal deal priced at £3.50 for members and £4.00 for non-members. The premium offerings in the Irresistible range are priced at £3.95, available in the premium meal deal for £5.00 for members or £5.50 for non-members.
This festive initiative follows similar releases by competitors such as Tesco and Aldi, who have also unveiled their holiday-themed products. However, Co-op’s partnership with Barnardo’s sets it apart by intertwining festive consumerism with a charitable cause.
Co-op’s initiative not only aims to satisfy culinary urges during the festive period but also leverages its reach to support a meaningful charitable cause, showcasing a blend of tradition and social responsibility.
