This autumn marks a remarkable collaboration between B&Q and Neighbourly, as they continue their Community Days initiative aimed at fostering community development across the UK and Ireland. B&Q’s collaboration with Neighbourly has been pivotal in creating positive changes within local communities through volunteer work. Each B&Q store, totalling 311, commits to delivering impactful DIY projects that bolster local charities.
B&Q employees are set to undertake diverse tasks, from refurbishing community centres to creating green spaces or enhancing the facilities of organisations aiding those in need. Each store commits not only manpower but also up to £1,000 worth of essential products to ensure the successful completion of these projects.
Since their partnership with Neighbourly in 2019, B&Q employees have supported over 2,000 local causes. Among these, the Blackpool & The Fylde Street Angels stand out, with B&Q volunteers contributing over 200 hours to this charity alone. This particular initiative focuses on aiding individuals facing homelessness, addiction, or exploitation.
The Community Reuse programme is another critical initiative that B&Q runs through Neighbourly. This project aims to minimise waste by donating surplus materials and products to various local community groups, charities, and schools. To date, 725 tonnes of surplus products have been distributed, effectively reducing waste and benefiting communities.
B&Q is steadfast in its commitment to social responsibility. Richard Cooper, a store manager at B&Q Blackpool, underscores this sentiment, highlighting the joy of community engagement: “The store team loves getting out into the community to give back and share some of our DIY skills. We’ve supported Blackpool and Fylde Street Angels for our Community Day project for the last couple of years, they are an amazing charity.”
The initiatives driven by B&Q are a testament to the power of corporate-community partnerships. By channeling resources and expertise, B&Q transforms community spaces, ultimately uplifting neighbourhoods one project at a time. Steve Butterworth, CEO of Neighbourly, reflects on this partnership, stating that B&Q embodies the core purpose of making effective use of surplus product, thereby enriching local communities.
B&Q’s collaboration with Neighbourly stands as a commendable example of corporate commitment to community enhancement and sustainability.
