The future of the iconic Stockport Pyramid, known to many as a landmark visible from the M60, may soon change dramatically. The Royal Nawaab has announced bold plans to convert the building into a massive curry restaurant that would span three floors and accommodate 1,500 diners. This ambitious proposal, pending council approval next month, aims to revitalise the once-vacant structure and bring vibrant new life to the area.
Should the plans proceed, the restaurant would not only serve as a unique culinary destination but also as a versatile space for hosting grand events, with dedicated banquet halls. This development is projected to create up to 150 jobs, injecting significant economic stimulus into the local economy of Stockport and the broader Greater Manchester area.
The upper levels of the pyramid, which has stood since its completion in 1992, are earmarked for storage and office use. With the building having been vacant after the Co-operative Bank’s departure, this conversion could preserve the site’s legacy while breathing new purpose into it.
The transformation proposal, initially submitted in July of the previous year, is currently under consideration by local area committees. A definitive verdict from Stockport council’s planning panel is anticipated by mid-November.
Mehboob Hussain, the visionary founder of Royal Nawaab, expressed excitement about the development, stating: “We are delighted about the proposed development of the Stockport Pyramid and the significant positive impact it is set to have on both the building and the wider area.” He highlighted plans to engage with local suppliers, ensuring the building’s revitalisation aligns with community interests.
The decision on this transformative proposal will be pivotal for the future use and preservation of the Stockport Pyramid.
