In the early hours of 24 October, the East London-based tailoring business, Batch LDN, fell victim to a significant burglary. Located in Spitalfields, the store was broken into by intruders who made off with items valued at £6,000, profoundly affecting the young business.
The incident occurred when two men reportedly gained access to the premises, described as one riding a white bike and the other on a Lime bike. They managed to smash a window using bricks, allowing them to enter the store and take “almost all” of the autumn-winter collection of wool herringbone suits.
This theft represents a considerable challenge for Batch LDN, a company founded in 2021 with a focus on providing modern, made-to-measure tailoring. Co-founder Julian Osborne commented on the situation, describing the event as “just another day of typical start-up turbulence,” illustrating the unpredictable and often difficult nature of running a new business.
The impact of this burglary is not only financial but also emotional for the team, as a spokesperson stated, “We are a young business, this is truly upsetting.” Batch LDN is taking proactive steps by appealing to anyone who might have been near the Commercial Street area between 3 and 4 am to come forward with any information that could assist the authorities.
This burglary serves as a stark reminder of the challenges faced by small businesses.
