Asda is revolutionising retail technology with a new trial of electronic shelf-edge labels (ESLs) at its Manchester Express store.
Asda has initiated a 12-week trial of electronic shelf-edge labels at its Express store located on Oxford Road, Manchester. This innovative initiative is designed to enhance pricing updates and improve operational efficiency. The store, given its high footfall, now features 3,000 ESLs across various product categories. These advanced labels allow staff to update prices swiftly, with the changes reflected on the shelves within 15 seconds.
Chris Walker, Managing Director of Asda Express, expressed enthusiasm about the trial, stating that it exemplifies their commitment to improving in-store processes. According to Walker, the “test and learn” trial aims to simplify operations for store colleagues while providing valuable insights for future technology rollouts. This approach is expected to bring significant improvements in efficiency and customer experience.
This trial signifies Asda’s re-engagement with ESL technology, following a previous large-scale test at its Stevenage superstore. The supermarket has partnered with Vusion Group for this endeavour, aligning with other major retailers such as M&S, Morrisons, and Budgens, who have also utilised technology from the same provider.
