Today, renowned TV personality and farmer Jeremy Clarkson joined a significant protest in Westminster, London, where thousands rallied against the recent agricultural inheritance tax policy introduced in the October Budget.
Clarkson, known for his outspoken nature, has aligned himself with numerous farmers, urging the government to reconsider the planned revisions that include cutting inheritance tax relief for agricultural properties valued over £1 million.
The protest, marked by the presence of prominent figures like Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch and former home secretary Priti Patel, underscores the widespread concern within the farming community. Farmers, feeling the financial pressure, are calling on the government to retract measures they believe threaten the sustainability of family farms.
Tom Bradshaw, the president of the National Union of Farmers, vocally criticised the new tax regulations, describing them as a severe blow to family-owned farming enterprises. “You know what this means for our families, our children, and our farms. It is wrong. It is wrong on every level,” he stated emphatically. His argument suggests that not only is the policy misplaced, but it might also fail to achieve its intended economic objectives.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has attempted to reassure the agricultural sector, suggesting that most farmers will remain unaffected by the changes. He maintains that the policy is ultimately designed to support the farming industry despite the recent discontent.

Retailers have also voiced their disapproval of the October Budget, pointing out that the increase in employers’ National Insurance contributions will inevitably lead to job cuts and higher prices, adding another layer of complexity to the economic impact of these new policies.
