The Fashion & Textile Children’s Trust (FTCT) has announced the launch of its annual back-to-school fundraising campaign. This initiative aims to ease the financial pressure on families of fashion and textile industry workers as they prepare for the new school year.
Amid the cost of living crisis, the campaign seeks to raise £5,000, covering the costs of essential school supplies such as uniforms. These funds are vital for families facing significant financial hardship.
A recent survey conducted by FTCT involving 54 UK fashion and textile industry parents highlighted the stress associated with back-to-school expenses. An astonishing 75% of respondents reported extreme financial stress, while 70% find it impossible to allocate funds specifically for these costs.
Anna Pangbourne, CEO of FTCT, emphasised the importance of this campaign by stating: “We can’t ignore the harsh reality that children right across the UK are being left behind at school due to economic challenges.” She urged the industry to unite in supporting families during this crucial time.
The campaign will run from 1st July to 31st July, with an ambitious goal of raising £5,000. This amount is equivalent to providing a full school uniform for 25 children, showcasing the tangible impact of the funds raised.
This year’s appeal follows the success of last year’s inaugural campaign, which aimed to raise £10,000. Additionally, support came from various sources, including the donation of 100 school backpacks by a streetwear brand.
FTCT, established in 1853, continues its legacy of providing substantial grants, distributing over £400,000 annually to families in need. Recent fundraising efforts include a record £8,300 raised at the Drapers Awards 2023 and £2,800 at the Drapers Sustainable Fashion Awards 2024.
The FTCT’s school uniform fundraiser is a critical initiative that addresses essential needs for families, ensuring children can thrive academically despite economic challenges.
