This Christmas, Sainsbury’s and Poundland have expanded their food-to-go selections with a range of new festive sandwiches and wraps for 2024.
Sainsbury’s has launched an intriguing assortment of ten different products, including two new options under their Taste the Difference line. Among these is the Festive Porchetta Sandwich priced at £4.50, and the Very Veggie Christmas Wrap featuring butternut squash, feta, pesto, mulled wine pickled cabbage, spinach, and herb stuffing, available for £4.25. These offerings are included in Sainsbury’s £5 premium Meal Deal, alongside a new Taste the Difference Christmas Cracker Club Sandwich. The supermarket is also introducing a By Sainsbury’s Chicken & Stuffing Christmas Wrap, priced at £3 and featured in their £3.75 Meal Deal.
Additionally, this year’s lunch selection includes By Sainsbury’s sandwiches in flavours like Pigs Under Blankets, Brie & Cranberry, Turkey Feast, Smoked Salmon & Cream Cheese, Free From Turkey Feast, and the Plant Pioneers No Pigs Under Blankets. Each of these sandwiches is priced at £3. Notably, until 31 December, Sainsbury’s will donate 10p from every festive sandwich and wrap sold to Comic Relief, aiming to improve food availability and sustainability in communities. This initiative is part of Sainsbury’s commitment to contribute over five million meals this winter.
Poundland, not to be left behind, has enhanced its food offerings with a £3 meal deal. This includes a new turkey, cranberry, and stuffing sandwich, created by chefs at On A Roll Sandwich Company’s pantry. Furthermore, a vegetarian Cheese and Christmas Slaw sandwich is available, with both sandwiches offered at £2 each. Poundland’s FMCG director, Glyn Hughes, emphasised their focus on value, remarking, “Others may have celebrities in their expensive Christmas TV ads, but at Poundland it’s the price that’s the star.”
These developments in festive offerings from Sainsbury’s and Poundland occur as other major retailers, including Tesco, Aldi, Co-op, and Asda, have also introduced their Christmas sandwich selections for 2024.
The culinary landscape for the Christmas season in 2024 is highly competitive, with Sainsbury’s and Poundland taking significant steps to entice customers with festive flavours and appealing prices.
