Coggles’ Alderley Edge store closure marks a significant change as it is rebranded under Flannels.
- Originally opened in 2017, the store was Coggles’ sole physical location before being replaced by Flannels.
- The transition follows Frasers Group’s acquisition of Coggles from THG, as part of a broader strategy.
- Concerns arise over Coggles’ future independence amid Frasers Group’s expanding influence in the luxury market.
- Flannels’ expansion reinforces its presence with new stores in Leeds and Milton Keynes, totalling over 80 locations.
The renowned Coggles store in Alderley Edge, established as its flagship and only physical site since 2017, has now been transformed into a Flannels outlet. This transformation follows Coggles’ acquisition by Frasers Group earlier this year.
This strategic move is part of Frasers Group’s extensive expansion plan, having replaced the 4,000 square foot Coggles store with their luxury brand, Flannels. The takeover is rooted in a partnership between Frasers Group and THG, Coggles’ previous owner since 2013, which involves other luxury platforms like The Hut, MyBag, and Allsole.
Coggles’ history dates back to its founding in 1974 by Victoria Bage in York. Despite being bought out of administration by THG in 2013, its presence has been robust, especially online, offering over 200 designer brands such as Balenciaga and Gucci.
Concerns have been voiced regarding the future of Coggles’ distinct identity and its ability to operate independently as Frasers Group’s dominance grows in the high-end market. Earlier reports indicate that THG cancelled several orders for future collections, reflecting uncertainties in their operational strategies.
Boosting its luxury footprint, Flannels is rapidly enhancing its presence. Recently, it launched a 70,000 sq ft store in Leeds and a 20,000 sq ft outlet in Milton Keynes, increasing the total number of Flannels stores to over 80 across the UK and Ireland.
The rebranding of Coggles’ store to Flannels marks a strategic milestone in Frasers Group’s expansion within the luxury retail sector.
