In an ambitious expansion effort, Footasylum is set to open a 7,000 sq ft store in Aberdeen’s Union Square shopping centre this September. This new store marks a significant milestone as it transforms the former USC unit located next to prominent retailers like Superdry and Superdrug. This strategic move is expected to bolster the local economy, with the creation of 30 new jobs spanning management, full-time, and part-time positions.
This expansion is part of Footasylum’s broader strategy to increase its presence across the UK. The new store will offer an extensive range of menswear, womenswear, and juniors, featuring popular brands such as Nike, Adidas, and Under Armour. Additionally, it will stock Footasylum’s own brands, including Monterrain, Zavetti Canada, and Dripmade, providing shoppers with a comprehensive streetwear selection.
The Aberdeen opening is just one of many recent initiatives by Footasylum to enhance its retail footprint. Last September, the company unveiled a 20,000 sq ft flagship store on Oxford Street, followed by the upsizing of its locations in Birmingham’s Bullring and Leeds’ White Rose shopping centre. Earlier this month, Footasylum expanded its reach with a 13,000 sq ft store in Gateshead’s Metrocentre.
David Pujolar, CEO of Footasylum since March, expressed his confidence in the choice of Aberdeen’s Union Square as a prime location for their expansion. He stated, “Union Square shopping centre is the city’s largest retail and leisure destination, and I have no doubt it is the right location for our first-ever Aberdeen store.” Pujolar views this launch as a vital step towards making Footasylum’s unique and widespread streetwear offering more accessible throughout the UK.
The company’s recent financial performance underscores the success of this expansion strategy. Earlier this year, Footasylum reported a 38% rise in EBITDA, reaching £22m for the year ending 27 January 2024. This financial growth was driven by store openings and expansions, with total revenue increasing by 7% year on year to £320m, marking another record year for the business.
Footasylum’s new store in Aberdeen represents a pivotal stride in its UK expansion, enhancing both its retail presence and the local economy.
