Greggs is set to elevate its brand image by launching a Champagne bar at Fenwick department store in Newcastle, portraying what has been described as “the UK’s most premium Greggs.” The bar is scheduled to open on 24 October 2024, nestled within the department store’s food hall, and will welcome guests until 31 December. This initiative marks a sophisticated venture for Greggs, known primarily for its casual bakery delights.
Reservations will be essential to enjoy the distinctive menu crafted by Fenwick’s executive head chef, Mark Reid, in a unique collaboration with Greggs. The menu takes inspiration from Greggs’ beloved products, augmenting them with contemporary and “in vogue” condiments. Noteworthy creations include the sausage roll with hot honey chilli sauce, and the steak bake served with peppercorn aioli. The sausage, bean, and cheese melt has been enhanced with bloody mary ketchup, taking it to what Greggs describes as “new culinary heights.”
In an exciting first, patrons will have the opportunity to pair their savoury treats with a variety of handpicked Champagnes. These selections include Bollinger Rosé and Laurent Perrier, with the option to indulge in Louis Roederer Cristal priced at £75 per glass, or £425 per bottle, adding a luxurious touch to the dining experience.
For those with a sweet tooth, the innovative dessert menu features signature cocktails inspired by Greggs’ sweet offerings. Choices include the “Yum Yum Twist,” a sugar-glazed concoction of rum and Yum Yums, the “Cream Éclair” with vanilla vodka and dark chocolate liqueur, and the non-alcoholic “Peach Melba” cocktail, reflecting the creative flair infused into this dining event.
Leo Fenwick, strategic partnerships director at Fenwick, expressed enthusiasm about the venture, stating: “After the phenomenal success of last year’s Bistro Greggs, we are proud to once again partner with Greggs to launch this Champagne Bar at Fenwick, offering a fun and unique customer experience.” Similarly, Greggs’ customer director Hannah Squirrell remarked, “Following the reaction to our Greggs Bistro last year, we’re excited for the launch and hope many will enjoy the fun and unique experience, discovering that a chilled glass of Champagne accompanied by a sausage roll will be the hottest ticket in Toon for 2024.”
The collaboration between Greggs and Fenwick offers an innovative and luxurious twist on traditional bakery fare.
