Lidl is set to enhance its presence across the UK by opening 10 new stores before Christmas, following a significant £70 million sale and leaseback agreement.
The recent transaction is a collaboration between Roadside Real Estate and Meadow Partners, encompassing 12 new stores in places like Crediton, Manchester, and Saffron Walden. Richard Taylor, the Chief Development Officer of Lidl GB, highlighted this deal as part of their ongoing strategy to broaden their reach, facilitating more communities to benefit from nearby stores.
Among the new locations, Lidl plans to inaugurate stores at Berwick Green in Bristol, Bovey Tracey in Devon, and Stirchley in Birmingham. These openings will collectively create around 400 job opportunities, underscoring Lidl’s commitment to not only provide affordable food but also boost local employment.
In London, three new outlets are set to open in Hoxton, Forest Gate, and Caterham. Besides these, Lidl has also planned to reopen three refurbished and relocated stores in Chessington, Connah’s Quay, and Dagenham Heathway. These developments follow the summer’s opening in Worthing and a recent new store in Fulham in September.
Richard Taylor emphasised their ambition to continue extending their footprint across the UK, noting that their teams are actively seeking locations where demand is increasing, even in areas with existing stores. This continuous expansion strategy aligns with Lidl’s broader goal to introduce hundreds more stores nationwide in the coming years.
The strategic decision by Lidl to open new stores before Christmas showcases its dedication to expanding its market presence and supporting local economies through job creation. As these developments unfold, Lidl strengthens its position as a key player in the competitive retail sector.
