Majestic has announced a collaboration with the fintech charity Pennies, providing a simple way for customers to contribute to charitable causes at the checkout. This partnership allows customers in England, Scotland, Wales, and Jersey to round up their purchases to the nearest pound, with the funds directed to the Majestic Charitable Foundation.
The Majestic Charitable Foundation, newly established this year, aims to support causes important to Majestic’s staff. Initially, it has aligned itself with three national charities chosen by employees: The Brain Tumour Charity, Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM), and Child Bereavement UK. Additionally, in Jersey, customer donations will aid Jersey Cancer Relief.
During a brief trial period conducted earlier this year across 10 stores, Majestic successfully raised nearly £1,000. Buoyed by this success, the company aims to generate significant funds, targeting a six-figure donation annually through its association with Pennies.
Alex Jablonowski, Majestic’s Chief Financial Officer and trustee of the foundation, expressed the company’s commitment to seamless customer donations. He noted, “We wanted to make it quick and easy for our customers to contribute to our fundraising efforts, and Pennies have helped us deliver a simple solution to ‘micro-donate’ at the point of payment.”
The timing of this initiative corresponds with the festive season, which is crucial for charity fundraising. Jablonowski added, “Christmas is a really important time of year for charities around the country and many of them rely heavily on the goodwill of shoppers over the next few weeks. We know our customers will welcome the opportunity to round-up their shopping bills for incredibly worthy causes during the festive season, and contribute to what will be a life-changing impact for the people we support through the Majestic Charitable Foundation.”
The foundation intends to broaden its support, eventually including smaller, local charities within the 212 communities where Majestic operates in the UK and the Channel Islands.
Recently, Majestic Wine revealed its plans to expand further by opening additional stores, including a new wine emporium in Plymouth.
The collaboration between Majestic and Pennies marks a significant step in enabling customers to make a positive impact effortlessly. By embracing this initiative, Majestic not only enhances its support for major charities but also plans to reach out to smaller, local causes, reflecting its commitment to corporate social responsibility.
