A planned overhaul of Ellesmere Port Market is deferred to ensure festive trading remains undisturbed.
- The renewal project will start in early 2025 as part of a £13 million government fund.
- Market stalls will be temporarily relocated to facilitate ongoing trading and construction.
- Residents are invited to propose new names for the revamped Flea Market area.
- The Flea Market’s next event, Comic Con, is scheduled for October 26.
A significant refurbishment of the Ellesmere Port Market has been postponed until early 2025. Cheshire West and Chester Council aim to allow stallholders to continue trading without interruption during the busy festive period. The decision ensures that the market remains operative, albeit with temporary relocation of stalls to accommodate the renovation work.
The market overhaul forms a crucial part of a £13 million initiative supported by the Levelling Up Fund. This funding, provided by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities, underscores a commitment to enhancing regional infrastructures and economic development. The refurbishment project’s scope included the removal of the exterior white canopy above the market entrance.
Residents of Ellesmere Port are being encouraged to contribute to the transformation by suggesting new names for the Flea Market space. Councillor Nathan Pardoe, speaking on behalf of inclusive economy and regeneration, stated, “We are asking residents and shoppers if they want to keep the Flea Market name, or if they would like to suggest a new name for the Flea Market as part of its transformation into a new event and community space.” The naming process will culminate in a public vote later this year, encouraging community involvement.
The revitalised Flea Market area aims to serve as a versatile venue for a diverse range of community and social events. Plans include upgraded facilities such as modern toilets, a stage with a sound system, and a dedicated event entrance. The objective is to attract more visitors to the town centre, enhancing the area’s cultural and social vibrancy.
Meanwhile, preparations continue for the Flea Market’s upcoming event, Comic Con, scheduled for October 26. This occasion highlights the market’s ongoing role as a community hub, providing a platform for both traditional and new activities. The event represents the market’s commitment to maintaining a lively and engaging environment for visitors.
The postponement of the Ellesmere Port Market renovation reinforces the commitment to both continual trading and community engagement during the festive period.
