Meadows, a prairie-inspired womenswear brand established in 2019, is set to go on “indefinite hiatus,” as announced by its founder Louise Markey.
- The decision comes as Markey chooses to streamline focus on her main brand, LF Markey, known for its workwear-inspired fashion.
- Meadows has been a cherished project, stocked in numerous independent retailers across several countries.
- The production of Meadows has proven to be labour-intensive, prompting a shift in business priorities.
- A closing-down sale is underway, providing an opportunity to acquire remaining Meadows stock directly from its ecommerce site.
Meadows, launched in 2019 as a feminine alternative to LF Markey, will enter an “indefinite hiatus”, according to founder Louise Markey. Established as a prairie-inspired womenswear label, Meadows quickly secured a spot in the inventory of 30 independent UK retailers, including prominent names like The Mercantile in London and Roo’s Beach in Newquay. Additionally, its reach extended across 50 retailers in international markets such as the US, Canada, Australia, Belgium, Italy, Switzerland, and France.
Markey’s decision to put Meadows on hold stems from a desire to concentrate efforts on LF Markey, her primary brand. LF Markey has garnered a reputation for providing workwear-inspired fashion for both women and children, featuring iconic denim and corduroy boilersuits. “[Meadows] has brought me much joy to work on this label over the last five years but the time has come to simplify things, in both my life and workplace,” Markey stated.
The operational demands of producing Meadows have been significant for the independent business, consuming substantial time and resources. Markey cited these challenges as pivotal in the decision to focus on the more established LF Markey brand. As Meadows takes a step back, a closing-down sale has been announced, allowing customers to purchase remaining stock through the brand’s direct-to-consumer ecommerce website.
The transition marks a strategic refocusing for Louise Markey as she aligns her business priorities with LF Markey.
