In a notable move to support customers over the Christmas period, Morrisons has announced that from 18 to 24 December, More Card holders can purchase key festive vegetables at a remarkable price of 10p each. This offer includes staples such as 1kg bags of carrots, 500g packs of parsnips, 500g selections of Brussels sprouts, and a whole British swede. Additionally, 2kg bags of potatoes have their price halved to £1.15, a discount available until 1 January.
Fraser Lovatt, Morrisons’ category director of produce and horticulture, stated, “No Christmas dinner is complete without all the trimmings of the seasonal vegetables.” He emphasized the supermarket’s commitment to keeping costs low for customers during the festive season, enabling them to enjoy a traditional roast without straining their budgets.
This initiative not only provides economic relief but also aims to promote environmental sustainability. Lovatt highlighted that selling more of these products prevents them from being wasted, supports British farmers, and aligns with the supermarket’s broader sustainability goals.
Meanwhile, competitor Asda has also introduced a similar offer, reducing the price of its holiday vegetables to 15p from 19 to 24 December. Customers can buy 1kg of carrots, 500g of Brussels sprouts, 360g of broccoli, and 500g of parsnips at these prices both in-store and online. These competitive pricing strategies reflect a broader trend within the retail sector to attract budget-conscious consumers during the holiday season.
