M&S has made significant strides in enhancing its environmental initiatives by expanding the Beauty Takeback Scheme to 100 stores across the UK. This noteworthy growth involves the addition of 60 new locations, thereby allowing more customers than ever a convenient way to participate in sustainable practices.
First launched in June 2023, the scheme supports the recycling of a wide array of beauty product packaging including bottles, tubes, caps, pumps, and tubs from any retailer. Customers can drop off their used items at designated boxes located within the beauty sections of the stores.
Since its inception, the scheme has successfully processed over 1.6 tonnes of beauty packaging. This impressive amount represents packaging that might otherwise have contributed to landfill waste, instead being repurposed to support sustainability goals.
The initiative forms a crucial element of the high street retailer’s larger effort to achieve Net Zero emissions. By adopting this approach, M&S seeks to drive the creation of a circular economy, a goal highlighted by their head of sustainability, clothing & home, Katharine Beacham.
Beacham remarked, “At M&S, we want to play our part in driving a more circular economy and the circularity services we offer are key to this.” Her comments underscore the company’s commitment to offering practical recycling solutions to its customers, ensuring the scheme’s popularity and effectiveness.
The expansion of M&S’s Beauty Takeback Scheme underscores its commitment to environmental sustainability and customer accessibility.
