Sainsbury’s has recently introduced a diverse range of Pan-Asian ready meals, drawing inspiration from Japanese, Indonesian, Korean, and Thai cuisines. This move aims to cater to a growing global palate amongst UK consumers.
The ‘by Sainsbury’s’ collection features an assortment of seven main dishes, each starting at £4, alongside six complementary side dishes priced at £2.50. These main courses offer a variety of tastes, including Chicken Pad Thai Noodles, Beef Bibimbap, Nasi Goreng, a Sticky Chilli Chicken Rice Bowl, Teriyaki Chicken, Chicken Yaki Udon Noodles, and a Spicy Gochujang Style Chicken Rice Bowl. Each dish has been crafted to bring authentic flavours to the convenience of a ready meal.
Meanwhile, the side options provide further variety to the dining experience with selections such as Chilli Fried Chicken, Edamame Beans, a Fried Gyoza Selection, Crispy Panko Prawns, Teriyaki Vegetable Bao Buns, and a Dip Selection. These additions reflect the vibrant and bold tastes that are increasingly popular in the UK.
Sainsbury’s research indicates that roughly 50% of British households have consumed at least five different types of international cuisines at home within a three-month timeframe. Among these, Japanese, Korean, and Thai dishes are recognised as some of the fastest-growing culinary trends in the country.
Katy Winterbottom, Sainsbury’s product developer, emphasised the intention behind the new range, stating: “Our new range of meals are inspired by some of the bold and vibrant flavours you’d expect in popular Japanese, Indonesian, Korean and Thai dishes, so our customers can easily enjoy the foods they want more of, without the expense of travelling or hassle of scratch cooking.”
The launch of these Pan-Asian meals coincides with the supermarket’s previous introduction of ten new ‘Taste the Difference’ ready meals earlier in the month. These meals include innovative dishes such as Smoky Aubergine Tikka Masala and Gochujang Roasted Cauliflower, indicating a broader strategy to expand their ready meal offerings.
In response to evolving food preferences, Sainsbury’s new Pan-Asian ready meal range offers a convenient solution for those seeking diverse flavours without the need for extensive cooking. This initiative highlights the supermarket’s commitment to meeting customer demands for accessible global cuisine.
