Sainsbury’s has made a notable move by opening its inaugural airport store at Edinburgh Airport, marking a new chapter in its drive to revamp food, drink, and shopping options available to passengers. This strategic location allows the store to cater to a diverse range of travellers at any hour of the day, as it operates 24/7.
This significant 2,449 square foot establishment is staffed by a team of 26 members, all committed to delivering quality service. Edinburgh airport store manager, Jordan Mudie, expressed enthusiasm about the store’s opening, emphasising the team’s dedication to serving customers around the clock with Sainsbury’s well-loved products and service.
Patrick Dunne, a director within Sainsbury’s, shared insights into the broader vision, stating, “We want to build on the resounding success of our other travel hub stores, for example in UK train stations, and we’ll be listening closely to feedback from customers in the coming weeks to learn more about what they want to see from this kind of Local.” This feedback will be integral in refining the service and expanding to more airport locations across the UK.
The launch comes amidst a strategic overhaul that started with a convenience store range improvement programme in October, aimed at advancing the shopping experience to the ‘Next Level.’ This programme involves assessing product lines to decide which should be expanded or discontinued, ensuring a smart selection of ‘dine in’ and ‘food-to-go’ options.
Sainsbury’s aims to offer a reliable and quality-driven retail experience that aligns with the fast-paced lifestyle of airport passengers. This move not only strengthens their presence in travel hubs but also showcases their commitment to adaptation and growth within the retail market.
Sainsbury’s new venture at Edinburgh Airport illustrates its proactive approach to retail innovation, meeting modern travel needs while planning for broader expansion.
