Sainsbury’s is making a significant stride in sustainability by rolling out new cardboard hangers across its Tu Clothing Baby range, aiming to replace five million plastic hangers. This initiative is projected to save 103 tonnes of plastic, reflecting the supermarket’s commitment to environmental responsibility. More than 400 stores nationwide are participating, allowing customers to effortlessly engage in this change.
Customers now have the flexibility to recycle these new cardboard hangers at home or utilise Sainsbury’s in-store recycling service for previously used Tu Clothing plastic hangers. This added convenience not only encourages recycling but also underscores the company’s dedication to reducing waste and promoting eco-friendly practices.
Between January and July of this year, Sainsbury’s returned 12 million hangers from checkouts, amounting to 85 tonnes of plastic recycled. This effort illustrates the company’s proactive approach to addressing plastic waste, building on prior achievements in sustainable packaging.
