In a significant move to support vulnerable families in the United Kingdom, Sofidel, a leading tissue paper manufacturer, has decided to donate essential products such as toilet paper and kitchen towels to two key Multibank initiatives.
Sofidel, renowned globally for its tissue products, operates four production plants in the UK and is well-known for its Regina brand. This recent commitment involves contributions to ‘Cwtch Mawr’ in South Wales, managed by the Swansea charity Faith in Families, and ‘Felix’s Multibank’ in London, led by The Felix Project. These charities play a critical role in redistributing necessary goods to families experiencing poverty in the UK.
Multibanks, created by former UK Prime Minister Gordon Brown and Amazon, are designed as community donation centres that distribute essential items like personal hygiene products, bedding, and clothing to those in need. They operate through a network of referral partners including teachers, social workers, and local charities, ensuring resources reach those who require them most.
Francesco Pastore, Sofidel’s Chief Marketing and Sales Officer, emphasised the company’s commitment to community support, stating, “At Sofidel, we are happy to join this valuable, multi-stakeholder program and are committed to supporting the communities in which we operate. It is a way for us to show solidarity to people affected by poverty and try to make a real difference in their daily lives.”
Gordon Brown highlighted the severe impact of austerity and the cost-of-living crisis on UK families, underlining the importance of such donations in alleviating financial strain. He remarked that these contributions provide significant relief to families, potentially reducing the financial stress faced at the end of each month.
Amazon UK’s Country Manager, John Boumphrey, expressed the initiative’s goal to assist as many families as possible by connecting UK businesses with surplus essentials to those who need them. With support already reaching over 400,000 families, Boumphrey welcomed Sofidel’s involvement, which will enable further assistance to those in need.
This collaboration exemplifies a strategic approach to tackling poverty, highlighting the importance of partnerships in addressing social challenges. Through such concerted efforts, more families may find respite from the economic pressures they face.
