Spar North of England has revolutionised its meal deal offerings with the introduction of a new £5 ‘premium’ selection, marking a major update to its lunchtime options.
The revamped meal deal from Spar gives customers the opportunity to enjoy a variety of main courses including hot food, sushi, and deli baguettes, alongside a snack and a drink, all priced at £5. This new option runs concurrently with the existing standard meal deal priced at £4.25, which offers pre-packaged Spar sandwiches, wraps, pasta pots, and salad pots with a snack and a drink.
In addition to the new premium option, Spar has expanded the range of products and brands available, offering over 400 drink options and more than 50 different snacks as part of the meal deals. However, the breakfast meal deal remains at £3.75, pairing a breakfast roll with a hot drink, and is unchanged by this update.
Spar’s decision to update its meal deals represents the largest simultaneous change to their lunch offerings in 15 years. This strategic move comes after extensive market research and feedback collection from both their in-house deli teams and independent retailers.
Kim Hudson, the food-to-go development manager at James Hall & Co, expressed enthusiasm about the improvements, stating, ‘We are excited to implement the new premium meal deal and introduce the changes that we believe customers will love.’ Hudson noted that a comprehensive marketing campaign supports the launch, with fresh in-store print marketing and digital screen promotions placing meal deals prominently in the customer’s sightline.
The introduction of Spar’s premium meal deal is a strategic move to enhance customer experience by offering wider choices and premium selections. This initiative appears to align with customer feedback and market trends, aiming to attract a broader audience.
