In a significant move to assist consumers during the festive season, Tesco has announced substantial price reductions on Christmas dinner essentials for its Clubcard members.
Tesco, a leading supermarket chain in the UK, has unveiled a series of price cuts aimed at making the traditional Christmas dinner more affordable for its customers. From 19 to 25 December, those holding a Clubcard will find it cheaper to prepare a festive meal for six, spending as little as £1.84 per person. This has been achieved by reducing the cost of small, fresh turkeys by 40%, now priced at just £3 per kilo for Clubcard holders.
In addition to the reduction on turkeys, Tesco has also decreased the price of Christmas dinner staples such as carrots and parsnips to 15p a bag, and sage and onion stuffing to 40p, specifically for those with a Clubcard. Overall, a complete Christmas dinner for six can be cooked for £11.05, representing a significant saving compared to the previous year’s offer.
This year’s prices notably represent a decrease of 25p per person compared to last year, marking a 12% reduction in costs. Ashwin Prasad, Tesco’s Chief Commercial Officer, stated, “We know that every little really does help at this time of year, and, with the traditional Christmas dinner at the heart of celebrations across the country this December, we were determined to deliver our customers truly great value on the turkey and trimmings, even compared with last year.”
The move by Tesco mirrors similar strategies implemented by other major UK retailers such as Asda, Sainsbury’s, and Aldi. These supermarkets have also reduced prices on key Christmas items, including vegetables which are now available for as low as 15p, reinforcing a competitive market response to consumer needs during the holiday season.
These strategic price reductions by Tesco and other UK supermarkets highlight a concerted effort to support consumers facing economic pressures during the festive season. By offering significant savings on traditional Christmas meal components, Tesco ensures that the warmth and joy inherent in Christmas celebrations remain accessible to a wide range of people.
