The first retail outlet has opened within the UK Defence estate at HMS Collingwood, marking a significant expansion of franchise operations for the well-known retailer.
In collaboration with the Royal Navy and Defence Infrastructure Organisation (DIO), the retailer has partnered with ESS Defence to establish a bespoke retail facility in the Junior Ranks Mess. This strategic development aims to cater to the needs of military personnel, civil servants, and contractors on site.
The new store, operating as a franchise, provides an extensive selection of products including hot and cold food-to-go options, groceries, and essential non-food items. Notably, the product range is curated specifically for the community it serves, ensuring it meets local demand.
For convenience, two self-service Costa coffee machines have been installed, alongside a bakery range, enhancing the store’s offerings. Further enhancing customer experience, six self-service tills are available, highlighting a commitment to speed and ease of purchase. Co-op membership benefits, along with various promotions such as meal deals, are also accessible to customers.
Martin Rogers, the Director of Partnership Development, expressed pride in launching the new store, noting its potential as a blueprint for future ventures in diverse sectors. Meanwhile, Bob Gray, ESS Defence’s managing director, emphasized their focus on retail innovation, highlighting the significance of offering retail experiences comparable to high street standards.
The opening of this new store within the UK Defence estate signifies an important step in retail expansion, potentially setting a precedent for similar initiatives in the future.
