In a move to enhance customer experience, Waitrose has introduced Caffè Nero outlets within select stores across the UK, signalling a strengthened collaboration between the John Lewis Partnership and the coffee brand.
Last week, five Waitrose stores in Billericay, Godalming, Keynsham, Locks Heath, and Stroud began offering Caffè Nero’s coffee, coupled with the upmarket retailer’s food menu. This development highlights the evolving landscape of retail, where such collaborations aim to enrich the shopping experience.
Additionally, a Caffè Nero outlet was launched at the John Lewis store in White City, West London. This collaboration, which started in 2021, initially focused on providing free hot drinks to loyalty cardholders of My Waitrose. To date, nearly 25 million hot drinks have been served under this scheme.
Charlotte Di Cello, Waitrose’s commercial director, emphasised the importance of stores as community hubs, stating, “Our stores are hubs for local communities across the country and we know our customers love to have the option of enjoying a coffee, snack or meal after their shop.” Unlike the self-service machines prevalent in many stores, these new cafés will feature barista-served coffee, offering a more personalised service.
The initiative coincides with the opening of Waitrose’s first new convenience shop in six years, situated in Hampton Hill, Southwest London. This marks the 47th Waitrose-operated convenience shop, reflecting the brand’s ongoing commitment to retail innovation and customer convenience.
The collaboration between Waitrose and Caffè Nero represents a significant step in transforming shopping areas into more community-centric spaces. By offering quality coffee and enhanced customer service, these new outlets are poised to attract more visitors and foster loyalty.
