Zara, the renowned fashion retailer, has announced a strategic expansion by securing a former Debenhams space at Glasgow’s Silverburn shopping centre. This move involves relocating to a 47,000 sq ft space spread over two levels. This expansion signifies Zara’s commitment to enhancing its physical retail presence in key locations.
The new store forms part of a broader redevelopment of the former Debenhams site, which ceased operations in 2020. Zara’s lease is one of three units being reimagined, with negotiations ongoing for the remaining spaces. The large retail unit will allow Zara to offer an improved shopping experience, aligning with its flagship designs seen in major cities.
The transition to this expansive space is anticipated to bolster Zara’s physical retail strategy, enabling a seamless integration of their online and in-store services. Customers will now have the convenience of picking up online orders at the new site, further integrating Zara’s omnichannel retail offering.
This development follows the acquisition of Silverburn by Henderson Park and Eurofund Group in 2022, who purchased it for £140 million. They are committed to revitalising the shopping complex to attract leading international retailers and enhance its appeal to consumers. Alberto Esguevillas, CEO of UK Retail at Eurofund Group, expressed delight in securing a flagship store for Zara, emphasising the quality and appeal these new units bring to the centre.
Christophe Kuhbier, head of investments of Europe at Henderson Park, underlined the significance of Zara’s enhanced store as a representation of the future of physical retail. Kuhbier noted it as a striking, experiential location that perfectly complements Zara’s successful brand model.
