UK-based food processing company Veetee Foods, Inc. is set to expand its operations in the United States by opening a major production plant in Selma, North Carolina, located in Johnston County. This move represents a significant investment of $35.7 million and is expected to create 200 new jobs in the region, providing a substantial boost to the local economy.
The new facility will utilise over 20 years of technological advancements developed at Veetee’s factory in the UK. It will be equipped to cook a variety of foods including rice, pasta, noodles, and spaghetti, using ingredients sourced domestically within the US. North Carolina Governor Ralph Cooper praised the investment, saying it aligns perfectly with the state’s commitment to fostering innovation and job creation.
“We are delighted to see our ambitious expansion vision reach the USA, and we see Johnston County as our perfect partner,” said Moni and Rajiv Varma, Veetee Foods’ chairman and managing director, respectively. “We are humbled by this opportunity and equally excited to unleash a wide range of delicious meals that families across the country will no doubt enjoy.”
Veetee Foods Has A Reputation in Food Processing
Veetee Foods was founded in 1986 and has established a strong presence in both the UK and India, gaining early recognition for its rice products. The company’s success has primarily stemmed from its production of dry rice and ready-to-heat rice, but over the years it has expanded into a wide range of ambient convenience foods.
Globally, Veetee employs around 1,000 people, and the addition of the new Selma facility is expected to significantly increase the company’s footprint in the United States, where it currently has a smaller operation. This expansion marks a key step in the company’s vision of reaching a broader international market.
Benefits to North Carolina and Johnston County
The decision to build the new plant in Johnston County is expected to generate significant economic benefits for the area. The creation of 200 jobs will provide opportunities across a variety of roles, from food production to logistics and management. Additionally, Veetee Foods’ commitment to sourcing ingredients locally will help to strengthen partnerships with US-based suppliers and contribute to a more sustainable food supply chain.
Governor Ralph Cooper expressed enthusiasm for the project, highlighting its potential to not only support economic growth in the region but also to reinforce North Carolina’s position as a hub for food manufacturing and innovation. The state has been working to attract international companies, and Veetee’s expansion is seen as a testament to the growing appeal of the region for global businesses.
As the new facility prepares to open its doors, Veetee Foods aims to deliver high-quality, convenient meal solutions to consumers across the United States, building on its legacy of innovation and success in the food industry.
