Bellway Homes has teamed up with Hunsley Primary School in Brough to help boost biodiversity around the school grounds. The homebuilder, currently developing properties in the nearby Palmer’s Grange estate, has donated 50 wildflower seed bombs to the school’s Eco-Team as part of an effort to rewild areas of the site.
The donation is intended to support the school’s environmental initiative, encouraging the growth of native wildflowers, which are crucial for attracting pollinating insects such as bees. As pollinator numbers continue to decline globally, the school’s project aims to create habitats that foster these essential species.
Emma Fitton-Cook, sales manager for Bellway Homes, emphasised the importance of community involvement in their developments. She explained: “At Bellway, we focus on more than just building homes—we aim to build communities. Hunsley Primary is close to our Palmer’s Grange development, and we’re delighted to assist in their mission to encourage wildflower growth. This project reflects our broader commitment to sustainability and enhancing the natural environment.”
The seed bombs donated by Bellway Homes contain a mix of 24 native UK wildflower species, selected to promote biodiversity. The seeds are encased in a protective layer, designed to prevent them from being eaten by wildlife before they have the chance to germinate. These seed bombs are particularly beneficial for attracting pollinators, helping to support local ecosystems.
Hunsley Primary headteacher Lucy Hudson welcomed the support from Bellway, saying the donation comes at an ideal time. “With Spring just around the corner, our Eco-Team was eager to get the seed bombs planted. The wildflowers will help attract pollinating insects, which are vital for our local environment. It’s wonderful to see Bellway supporting our efforts. We’ve dedicated parts of our site to rewilding, and these seed bombs will play a significant role in helping us achieve our eco-goals.”
The collaboration between Hunsley Primary and Bellway Homes is part of a broader effort to connect the homebuilder with the local community. Palmer’s Grange is part of a £200 million development in Brough, located north of the Humber Estuary. The project will see the construction of 154 new homes, including a mix of two-bedroom bungalows, three-bedroom semi-detached houses, and larger four- and five-bedroom detached homes.
Bellway’s Palmer’s Grange development falls within the catchment area of Hunsley Primary, meaning future intakes of students could include children from the new housing estate. The connection between the development and the school is set to grow as the community expands.
House prices at Palmer’s Grange range from £319,995 for a family-sized detached home, up to £474,995 for a five-bedroom executive detached home with a double garage.
Further information about Bellway’s Palmer’s Grange development is available on their website, www.bellway.co.uk. The sales office is open Monday and Friday from 10am to 5pm, Thursday from 10am to 7pm, and every weekend from 11am to 5pm.
This partnership marks another step towards creating environmentally conscious communities in the UK, with Bellway Homes and Hunsley Primary working together to inspire the next generation of eco-conscious citizens.
