Banner Jones commemorated its 145th anniversary with an event at Chesterfield football ground earlier this month, attended by over 130 members of staff from its various offices. This gathering underscored the firm’s commitment to recognising the hard work and dedication of its employees.
During the celebration, CEO Simon Wright expressed gratitude to all employees for playing a crucial role in the firm’s achievements across its Sheffield, Chesterfield, Mansfield, and Dronfield offices. His address highlighted the importance of each individual’s contribution to the firm’s ongoing prosperity.
Banner Jones, which started operations on Chesterfield’s Glumangate in 1878, has a rich history of community involvement. The firm has supported several local charities, including Ashgate Hospice, St Luke’s Hospice, and The Samaritans. Its involvement extends to events like Free Wills Month and Mission Christmas, showcasing its dedication to local causes.
Employee welfare and professional growth are key priorities at Banner Jones, evidenced by its comprehensive internal training programmes. Presently, nine trainee solicitors, two apprentice solicitors, and numerous other staff members are pursuing professional qualifications. A significant 15% of the workforce has remained with the firm for over 20 years, demonstrating strong employee retention.
Simon Wright, who began his association with Banner Jones at the age of 16 and joined the firm in 1987, emphasised the company’s enduring legacy and continuous development. In his words: ‘The firm’s journey to date has been long and impressive, and the ongoing development of its people and its IT infrastructure are continuing to make it a great place to work and, I believe, a great firm with which to do business.’ The event served as a testament to the firm’s longstanding heritage and future vision.
