ALT Legal, based in Wetherby, has strengthened its team by hiring two new recruits, Heather Robertson and Alex Cooper. These appointments are enriched by the diverse professional journeys of both individuals. Alex, originally trained in pharmacology, has since transitioned into corporate law. Meanwhile, Heather pursued a conventional law degree but accumulated extensive experience as a project manager in the technology sector.
Alex Cooper, who joins from Clarion, is particularly drawn to ALT Legal’s values and refreshing approach. He notes a significant attraction to the firm’s innovative perspective and its flexibility, especially beneficial for working parents. ‘It has a refreshing approach to innovate the sector’s traditional models, coupled with a flexibility for working parents,’ he commented.
Anna Ashford, the head of ALT Legal, praised the duo’s varied backgrounds, highlighting the firm’s commitment to an unconventional approach to problem-solving. Heather’s role is poised to exploit her technological expertise to develop innovative offerings, including visual contracts. ‘Heather and Alex’s diverse backgrounds accentuate ALT Legal’s commitment to a very different approach to problem solving,’ Ashford stated.
Heather Robertson expressed enthusiasm for joining a firm that is not confined by traditional billing constraints. Her experience in the tech sector aligns with ALT Legal’s subscription-based model, which focuses on building authentic client relationships without the pressure of unexpected charges. ‘After my experience in the more creative, disruptive tech sector before working in traditional law firms, it’s exciting to join a firm with such an innovative approach that isn’t fixated on billable hours,’ she shared.
Since its inception nearly a decade ago by founders Richard Turner and Rob Ashall, ALT Legal has been dedicated to creating a modern law firm. The founders advocate for a business ethos that combines high-quality legal advice with a more informal and approachable practice environment. Rob Ashall emphasises this philosophy: ‘Just because we don’t take ourselves too seriously doesn’t mean we don’t take what we do seriously.’
The firm’s relaunch in 2021, orchestrated by Anna Ashford, has positioned ALT Legal as a pioneer in offering straightforward, client-friendly legal services. Ashford, through her presence on LinkedIn, has significantly bolstered the firm’s reputation, attracting clientele who appreciate an alternative legal practice. Her observation reflects a client-driven demand for straightforward contracts and clear communication, often utilising platforms like Slack.
The hires of Heather Robertson and Alex Cooper underscore ALT Legal’s forward-thinking approach in enhancing its innovative legal services.
