The iconic Wortley Arms pub, a Grade II Listed property in Sheffield, will reopen its doors to patrons under the management of Alan and Wendy McGilveray. This significant change follows the successful negotiation and completion of a lease assignment facilitated by Wake Smith Solicitors.
The new owners, Alan and Wendy McGilveray, have deep ties to the industry and a history of successful management, having previously operated a restaurant and bar at Fox Valley in Stocksbridge. Notably, Wendy McGilveray has historical ties to the Wortley Arms, having worked on its kitchen installation 17 years prior, which adds a personal dimension to this new venture.
The couple has announced plans to reintroduce the Wortley Arms with its existing 10 staff members and will integrate additional staff from their previous business. They intend to offer a menu similar in style to the previous offerings but are set to expand the selection of wines and cocktails, introducing new culinary enhancements.
The assignment of the lease and subsequent purchase of the business were expertly handled by Laura Saul, a director in Wake Smith’s commercial property team, and associate Tom Haywood from the corporate team. Saul confirmed that the contract was exchanged and completed by 4 March, paving the way for the reopening targeted around Easter.
This initiative not only preserves a well-known local venue but enhances its culinary and social offerings, promising to maintain its popularity among both regulars and newcomers. The reopening aligns with a brief refurbishment period, ensuring the pub remains a central hub within Wortley village.
The Wortley Arms’ reopening signifies a blend of rich tradition with exciting new developments under its new management.
