Rollits LLP, a leading law firm, has recently welcomed three new trainees, each bringing a unique background and approach to their legal careers. Among them, Charlotte Milligan and Daniel Huntley-Taylor have pursued the traditional pathway, entering the legal profession straight from school. Meanwhile, Leila Bolton offers a compelling story of career transition, moving from a successful 20-year tenure in the hospitality industry to retrain as a lawyer.
Charlotte Milligan’s journey began at Beverley High School, where her interest in a legal career was first ignited during her time at Beverley Joint Sixth Form. She pursued this interest by undertaking her LLB at York St John University, where she actively participated in the university’s Law Clinic and the Rollits vacation scheme. Charlotte’s dedication and academic achievements led her to remain at York St John to complete her Legal Practice Course. Her hard work culminated in a successful work experience placement at Rollits, which secured her a Period of Recognised Training with the firm, where she is currently contributing to the property department.
Daniel Huntley-Taylor, educated at Andrew Marvell School and Hull College, followed a similar traditional path. He completed his LLB at the University of Hull before moving to Leeds to finalise his Legal Practice Course at Leeds Beckett University. Daniel’s commitment to the legal field was further exemplified by a productive summer placement at Rollits in 2022. His prior experience as a paralegal in a large legal aid practice’s referrals team provided him with essential skills that he now applies as a trainee at Rollits.
Leila Bolton’s career trajectory is notably different, showcasing the firm’s openness to diverse backgrounds. Having initially graduated in Philosophy from the University of Stirling in 1999, Leila spent two decades in hospitality management, including compliance roles and as a leaseholder of the Punch Hotel in Hull. Her responsibilities often intersected with legal considerations, particularly in licensing law, which she taught on behalf of the British Institute of Innkeepers. Motivated to formalise her legal knowledge, Leila returned to academia in 2019, achieving a First in her LLB from the University of Hull and a Distinction in her Legal Practice Course at the University of Law in Leeds. She now brings her extensive experience to Rollits’ dispute resolution team as an accredited civil mediator.
Gerry Morrison, the training principal at Rollits, expressed confidence in the new trainees, stating, “A training contract is a crucial stepping-stone for any aspiring solicitor, and we are proud to continue our tradition of nurturing legal talent in Yorkshire from a variety of backgrounds.”
Rollits LLP’s diverse new recruits highlight the firm’s commitment to developing legal talent from various backgrounds.
