- Cloisters Chambers in London is also contributing expertise to this initiative.
- The project aims to address legal discrimination and improve awareness of disability rights.
The collaboration between Inspire Legal Group and Disability Rights UK marks the introduction of a significant Access to Justice scheme. This initiative is targeted at enhancing legal support for disabled individuals across the United Kingdom and is backed by two years of funding from the Access to Justice Foundation.
The scheme is particularly geared towards tackling the persistent discrimination that many disabled people face. By offering crucial pro bono legal advice, the project addresses gaps in understanding of rights under the Equality Act. Research indicates that two-thirds of disabled individuals are not aware of how to seek legal advice concerning their rights, making this initiative particularly vital and timely.
Furthermore, the initiative will initially be rolled out across various regions, including North East and North West England, East of England, and the Midlands. It aims to deliver support on disability discrimination cases, predominantly focusing on consumer-related issues. The service will be accessible to law firms, advice centres, charities, and the public, thereby broadening its reach and impact.
London-based Cloisters Chambers lends its expertise to this scheme, enhancing the initiative’s capacity to address legal discrimination comprehensively. The combined efforts of these organisations are crucial in ensuring justice is accessible and discrimination is openly challenged.
Kamran Mallick, CEO of Disability Rights UK, underscored the necessity of the scheme, stating, “Access to justice is essential in combating the daily discrimination faced by disabled people.” Natalie Foster, Managing Director of Inspire Legal Group, echoed this by emphasising the need for equality: “At Inspire, we believe everyone deserves an equal chance in life.” These statements highlight the profound commitment of both organisations to effect meaningful change.
Interested parties are encouraged to reach out to Disability Rights UK for more information on accessing the service. This contact can be made via email or telephone, reinforcing the accessibility of the initiative for those who need it most.
This Access to Justice scheme represents a crucial step forward in addressing and combating legal discrimination against disabled individuals in the UK.
