Markel, the insurance operations of Markel Group Inc., has announced three senior appointments as part of its strategy to diversify its International Casualty portfolio and bolster its award-winning Wholesale Claims service for brokers.
Lauren Percival has been named Executive Underwriter – General Liability, effective immediately. She will play a key role in the sustainable expansion of Markel’s General Liability portfolio, working alongside James Murray, Head of General Liability. Percival’s responsibilities also include identifying new areas for growth and ensuring that brokers and policyholders receive high levels of service and swift response times.
Percival brings 18 years of underwriting experience in the London Market to her new role. Before joining Markel, she held senior positions at Arch Insurance International and Chaucer Plc, and spent 13 years at QBE Insurance (Europe) Ltd. At QBE, she advanced to Senior Underwriter in the International Casualty Division, managing a profitable book of business and building a strong network of clients across territories including South America, the Middle East, Asia, and the Caribbean.
Joining Percival at Markel is Olivia Hogan, appointed as Senior Underwriter. Hogan will support Graeme Ivory, Director of International Casualty, in developing Markel’s Environmental Liability product. She will also be responsible for underwriting a diverse portfolio of business, fostering broker relationships, and supporting the recruitment and development of talent within the International Casualty team.
Hogan is an experienced underwriter with 12 years in the London Market. She previously worked at AIG, where she spent more than six years leading the insurer’s UK Environmental Line of Business. In that role, Hogan managed a team of underwriters responsible for a profitable environmental insurance portfolio.
In addition, Ed Norman has been appointed International Casualty Claims Manager. He will lead the International Casualty claims function and ensure brokers and insured clients continue to receive a customer-focused and value-adding service. Norman will handle both complex and routine claims across key product lines including General Liability, Environmental Liability, and Life Sciences. He will also contribute technical expertise to support the development of tailored insurance wordings to meet evolving client needs.
Norman brings over 20 years of industry experience, most recently working at AXA XL, where he managed a team of claims professionals in his role as Assistant Claims Manager for London Wholesale Casualty. Before AXA XL, he worked as a Casualty Claims Adjuster at MSIG Holdings, managing claims on a global scale.
Both Percival and Hogan will be based at Markel’s London office. Percival will report to James Murray, while Hogan will report to Graeme Ivory. Norman will also be based in London and report to Thomas Upton, Head of Claims for Marine and Energy.
Commenting on the appointments, Ivory said: “We are excited to welcome Lauren and Olivia to our expanding International Casualty team. Their industry knowledge and expertise will enhance our ability to diversify our portfolios and strengthen our service offering.”
Thomas Upton added: “We are committed to delivering excellent claims service, and Ed’s extensive experience will be invaluable in helping us provide bespoke insurance solutions and keeping us informed on claims trends and developments.”
