A trio of well-known performers were recently spotted in Ackworth, donning eye-catching costumes as they filmed a trailer to announce the much-anticipated return of Cinderella at Theatre Royal Wakefield. Sam Nixon, Pop Idol finalist and children’s TV presenter, alongside pantomime regulars Chris Hannon and Chris Chilton, are set to take centre stage when the panto opens on 26 November.
Sam Nixon, who will play the role of Buttons, was joined by Chris Hannon and Chris Chilton, who will step into the roles of the ugly sisters Ponty and Cass. The three actors, each with a history of bringing laughter and fun to pantomime audiences, have been hard at work preparing for the production, which promises to give the classic tale a local Wakefield twist.
The pantomime is expected to be a major draw this festive season, with theatre enthusiasts already booking tickets well in advance. Head of Communications & Programme at Theatre Royal Wakefield, Kealey Woodward, expressed excitement about the return of the talented trio.
“We are very pleased to welcome Chris, Chris, and Sam back to the stage,” Woodward said. “Not only are they all talented actors and writers, but they are also genuine friends of the theatre. Their chemistry on and off stage is clear to see, and we know audiences will love what they bring to this year’s production.”
During the filming of the promotional trailer, locals in Ackworth were treated to a sneak peek of the cast in character. Sporting extravagant costumes, the actors drew plenty of smiles and laughter from passers-by as they rehearsed scenes from the upcoming show.
“It was clear while we were capturing the trailer that the trio were a real hit with the locals,” Woodward added. “There were certainly some raised eyebrows and lots of giggles as we captured each scene. We’re very much looking forward to seeing the response on social media when the trailer goes live, and there’s even a special appearance from a local pooch!”
The Theatre Royal Wakefield has long been a beloved institution in the region, known for its high-quality productions and family-friendly performances. This year’s rendition of Cinderella aims to continue that tradition, blending humour and heartwarming moments with a distinctly local flavour.
