- Outline permission covers 220,000 sq ft of commercial space on brownfield land.
- The development will offer mixed-use buildings and enhance local biodiversity.
- Plans promise an economic boost with job creation and investment.
- Previously residential, the land is now set for commercial transformation.
Urban regeneration company Summix has secured outline permission for a new industrial development situated at the junction of Rush Lane and Tamworth Road, south of Tamworth. Covering 17 acres of brownfield derelict land, the plans aim to revitalise the area, turning it into a hub of activity with approximately 220,000 square feet of commercial space.
The development will introduce a series of buildings designated for research, commercial, and industrial purposes. This initiative is expected to create new job opportunities, contributing to the economic uplift of the region. Summix’s project includes enhancements to local biodiversity, ensuring the integration of wildlife features.
Access to this burgeoning industrial site will be through the existing entrance on the A51 Tamworth Road, facilitating smooth traffic flow into the area. The outline permission granted follows a prior deferral, marking a significant milestone in the project’s progression.
Stuart Black, Summix’s development director, remarked, “These plans will provide a major economic boost to the area, attracting investment and businesses to the area and will create new jobs.” His comments reflect the positive reception from the council, who recognised the project’s potential benefits.
Initially earmarked for residential development, the decision to pivot towards a commercial focus stems from a strategic assessment, deeming it a more suited use for the land. Summix is now in pursuit of a development partner to finalise and deliver the project specifics.
The transition to a commercial development in Dosthill is poised to inject substantial economic and environmental benefits into the community.
