Less than a year after opening, Department Leeds Dock has unveiled an exciting expansion to its workspace by introducing a boutique cinema. This move is part of a broader strategy to enhance its offering as a dynamic hub for media, creative, tech, and digital enterprises.
Originally a waterside casino, the building was renovated into a modern workspace featuring hot desks, permanent desks, premium suites, private studios, and social areas including a bar and kitchen. It quickly became a thriving centre, attracting 60 companies encompassing 360 members from various sectors such as digital marketing, public relations, and technology startups.
The recent expansion has added new offices and a range of facilities on Level 2, which opens this autumn. This includes 3,860 square feet of space equipped with private offices, meeting rooms, a content creation suite, podcast facilities, and social areas which include phone booths, an event space with a bar, and the newly added private cinema.
The cinema itself is a versatile space, with seating arrangements ranging from plush sofas to theatre-style settings, and is equipped with a surround sound system. It is designed to be a unique venue for presentations, speaker events, and even brand launches.
Amy Matthams, General Manager of Department, expressed enthusiasm about the new addition. She commented on the potential of the cinema for hosting diverse events and highlighted the vibrant location at Leeds Dock offer. “The new cinema is an amazing addition to the new Level 2 of Department, giving a unique backdrop for presentations, speaker events or brand launches. It’s also an ideal space for businesses looking for a different kind of party venue this Christmas”, she stated.
