JD Group is set to embark on an ambitious project to construct a state-of-the-art campus near Bury. This development comes after receiving planning permission last year, with aspirations to place the new headquarters among those of global giants like Facebook, Google, and Nike. The expansive site will offer working space for approximately 2,000 employees and include significant amenities to enhance the work-life balance for its staff.
Following the initial approval, the second phase of development aims to create a hub building, featuring modern architectural designs such as an atrium with interconnected wings through a glazed façade and a bridge. This facility will also include a large gym and a crèche with the capacity to accommodate 120 children, reflecting a commitment to employee welfare.
JD Group operates over 60,000 staff across 29 countries, reinforcing its standing as a pivotal industry player. The design and access statement submitted to Bury Council details the development’s scope, noting that the headquarters currently functions out of three separate buildings on Pilsworth Road, employing around 1,300 people.
Refurbishments of the existing office spaces are already underway, intending to align them with contemporary standards. The proposal seeks to amalgamate these elements into a centralised point that respects and incorporates the wider context of campus development.
The site chosen for the new construction was formerly an industrial area known as ‘A-Plant’. Positioned to the west of JD’s current premises, it offers scenic views of the Hollins Vale Nature Reserve and fronts Pilsworth Road, making it a strategic location for completion of the campus.
This new development signifies a transformative step for JD Group, promising to elevate its operational capabilities and reinforce its industry stature.
