Liverpool is poised to usher in a novel attraction, the UK’s first floating sauna, located at Princes Dock. The sauna and accompanying ice baths have received planning approval for installation on a floating pontoon, marking an innovative blend of wellness and aquatic environment.
The project, undertaken by WYLD Sauna in collaboration with Peel Waters, highlights an ambitious plan to enhance Liverpool’s waterfront by offering unique recreational activities. Set to launch later this autumn, the facility promises to remain accessible from 7am until 10pm each day and aims to complement existing water activities, such as open water swimming.
The forthcoming sauna complex is set to house a robust 30-person capacity sauna, complemented by a plant room and dual ice baths. Adding to the allure, the outdoor site will feature showers including cascading pail showers and facilities designed to integrate seamlessly with the dock’s aquatic setting.
Emphasising eco-consciousness, the project plans to use floating plants as natural boundaries, championing both aesthetic and ecological benefits. WYLD Sauna’s commitment to environmental integrity also includes ensuring that rainwater and used water naturally flow back into the dock without the need for additional management.
Pending approval, the venue also seeks to enhance its offering with indoor music and a license to serve alcohol between 11am and 10pm. This proposal reveals WYLD Sauna’s vision of a vibrant, multifunctional space that remains respectful of its marine surroundings.
Liverpool’s floating sauna promises to set a precedent in combining leisure with innovative environmental design in an urban dockland setting.
