Boojum, a renowned Mexican casual dining chain, is set to open a new site in Birmingham city centre, further extending its presence in the UK. This strategic move marks the brand’s third UK launch this year, following successful inaugurations in Nottingham and Leeds.
Located at 64 New Street, the new restaurant will replace the recently closed Second Cup Coffee. Once operational, it will provide seating for 54 customers and create 25 new employment opportunities within the local area, highlighting Boojum’s commitment to contributing to the community’s growth.
Established in Belfast in 2007, Boojum has expanded significantly over the years and now boasts 18 outlets across Northern Ireland, England, and Ireland. The Birmingham opening is part of a broader strategy to enhance its UK footprint.
The Birmingham restaurant will feature Boojum’s signature menu items, including burritos, bowls, nachos, tacos, chips, and fresh salsas made daily. This new establishment aims to stand out in a bustling casual dining scene surrounded by competitors like Zócalo, Tortilla, and Wingstop.
David Maxwell, Boojum’s CEO, expressed enthusiasm about bringing the brand to Birmingham, mentioning the city’s eclectic culture and vibrant food scene as ideal for the brand’s offerings. Maxwell, who took over Boojum in 2015, is keen on expanding further by opening up to 25 new locations over the next five years.
Rob Powell, the head of operations, remarked on the strategic selection of the prime city centre location, close to Birmingham Town Hall, underscoring the firm’s dedication to UK expansion plans.
Boojum’s Birmingham opening reinforces its ambitious growth strategy within the UK dining sector.
