Solus has announced the creation of approximately 30 new jobs in Sunderland with the opening of a modern car repair centre. This development represents Solus’s first venture into the North East of England, as the company operates 22 other centres across the UK.
The facility, located at Hillthorn Park in Washington, is set to provide a variety of employment opportunities, including management roles, repair consultants, technicians, assessors, and customer care staff. The centre’s inception aligns with Solus’s broader expansion plans, which include upcoming sites in Sheffield and Exeter.
Simon Smith, Managing Director at Solus, expressed pride in the new development, noting, ‘We are extremely proud to open our new branch here at Hillthorn Park – the first site in the North East of England. By opening this centre, we can continue delivering great outcomes for our customers across the region, helping them to get back behind the wheel as quickly and as safely as possible.’
Hillthorn Park, developed by Legal & General, is a substantial project backed by the UK Government, the North East LEP, and the European Regional Development Fund. The site will eventually encompass 620,000 square foot of industrial space, distributed among 11 commercial buildings.
Councillor Kevin Johnston, responsible for business, housing and regeneration at Sunderland City Council, welcomed Solus’s arrival, stating, ‘Solus choosing to open its first North East hub at Hillthorn Park is brilliant news for the city. Creating high quality, skilled jobs for local people, it further drives home the strength of the city’s automotive industry and the appealing proposition we are able to offer businesses seeking to grow their operations in the North of England.’
The opening of Solus’s new repair centre in Sunderland marks a positive development for local employment and the regional automotive industry.
