- Simon Bumfrey will be interim CEO until Turner officially starts in February 2025.
- Turner is committed to advancing the bank’s innovation-focused, client-centric approach.
HSBC Innovation Banking has appointed Emily Turner as its new Chief Executive Officer, signalling a fresh chapter in its development. Turner, who leaves her position at Citi, brings a wealth of experience from her 13-year tenure at the American bank. During her time at Citi, she held the position of Head of Business Development and significantly contributed to the establishment of Citi Ventures UK. Additionally, Turner led the Global Institutional Strategic Investing group and played a vital role in nurturing early-stage companies within Citi’s internal incubator.
Turner takes over from Erin Platts, who navigated HSBC Innovation Banking through a turbulent period following the collapse of its U.S. parent, which ultimately led to a rescue deal with HSBC. Platts’ leadership was pivotal in stabilising the bank during these challenging times.
Emily Turner is set to officially assume her role in February 2025, after receiving regulatory approval. In the interim, Simon Bumfrey will serve as the acting CEO to ensure a smooth leadership transition.
Expressing her enthusiasm for the position, Emily Turner stated, “I’m excited to be joining HSBC Innovation Banking and to help build on its success to date. HSBC Innovation Banking has quickly established itself as a go-to partner for the innovation ecosystem with a track record of supporting founders, companies, and investors at all life stages. I’ve been hugely impressed by the team’s client-centric approach and look forward to working with them to take it to the next level.”
The appointment of Emily Turner is set to drive HSBC Innovation Banking forward, continuing its support for the technology sector.
