Filtronic is positioning itself to secure additional contracts in the space, aerospace, and defence markets. The company, based in County Durham, is in advanced negotiations and expects to announce new work shortly. Recent successes include smaller development contracts, signalling growth and potential for future expansion.
The company’s advancements are supported by investments in plastic encapsulation machinery at its base in Sedgefield, instigated by encouragement from a principal defence client. This has strengthened Filtronic’s presence in the space market, leading to collaborative projects with major industry players.
In preparations for its AGM, Filtronic reports that it has increased its manufacturing output and met quality standards, particularly in fulfilling orders for SpaceX. The firm is supporting SpaceX’s Starlink project, which aims to provide global internet coverage. Filtronic’s products, such as the E-band Solid State Power Amplifiers, are integral to improving connectivity and performance of gateway links.
The first half of 2025 is expected to perform better than the latter half of the year as retrofit projects for gateway links are completed. Filtronic will then shift its focus towards network expansion and enhancement.
In its update to the London Stock Exchange, Filtronic highlighted its progress on its technology roadmap, including the launch of the W-band SSPA at a recent European exhibition and promising results from Gallium Nitride V-band chipsets. These developments are attracting significant market interest, particularly in the space communications sector.
The firm is actively recruiting engineers to support its growing project portfolio, which includes collaborations with the European Space Agency, QinetiQ, and BAE. Filtronic emphasises that these initiatives are key to capitalising on growth opportunities and servicing technological advancements.
Driven by continuous contract awards and notable collaborations, including with SpaceX, Filtronic’s share value has seen steady growth over the past year. The company plans further expansion of its production capacity in November, ahead of relocating to a larger facility at NETPark, which will double its manufacturing space.
Filtronic’s strategic developments and contract acquisitions underscore its growth trajectory and promising future in advanced technology markets.
