The innovative app Where You At aims to enhance personal safety in nightlife settings through its cutting-edge technology. Utilising indoor mapping and Bluetooth mesh networks, the app enables users to maintain contact and navigate venues seamlessly, even in the absence of a phone signal.
Founded by Tamzin Lent in 2020, Where You At is inspired by Lent’s personal experiences of losing friends on the dance floor and encountering safety threats during evenings out. The app caters to the growing demand for safety solutions, particularly focusing on women’s safety—a critical issue that has gained governmental attention.
Where You At has successfully raised £2.5m in pre-seed funding, positioning it to enhance its platform with new features. The funding, led by Tony Mallin of Star Capital, with previous backing from industry leaders such as former Colgate-Palmolive CEO Ian Cook, aims to enrich the user experience and bolster safety.
The app’s new developments include a replayable video heatmap for operators and a meeting point feature. These functions aim to provide users with more comprehensive tools to address challenges posed by overcrowded venues.
Partnerships with prominent venues such as Drumsheds, Night Tales, XOYO, and E1, as well as locations in Sheffield, Essex, London, Cardiff, and Nottingham, allow the app to offer its innovative safety features across a broad geographic area. James Slater from Nottingham’s The Level acknowledged the app’s contribution by saying, ‘WYA links people with their peers and strengthens the ability to keep contact with those that you’re out with, even when they’ve wandered away and phone signal is limited.’
Where You At represents a significant advancement in ensuring safety and connectivity within nightlife environments.
